Democrats fighting for tax and fee increases

Look how staunchly the Democrats are fighting for Jim Doyle's tax and fee increases-

Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's plan to double the fee paid by sellers of homes and other property - a fee increase that would cost sellers of property $142 million over the next two years - survived the first attempt by Republicans to kill it Thursday.

The Legislature's Joint Finance Committee also kept intact another important provision in Doyle's budget: allowing most cities, towns, villages and counties to raise their tax levies for 2008 by 4%, or about twice the increase allowed over the past two years.
