So, this was my first year to attend the Blog Summit.
There was alot of very interesting stuff.
The discussion that most peaked my interest took place a the very end.
A women asked the question of Owen and Jay on whether or not they felt their personal safety had every been threatened because they are bloggers.
Both Owen and Jay stated that they have had phone calls to their homes. Neither appeared to feel particularly threatened by this action.
Perhaps it is because I am a female, but I find myself a bit more concerned about personal phone calls to my home. The person who originally asked the question was also a woman.
So is this more of a female issue and only women are feeling the threat?
As children, women are raised different then men. We are taught to continuous look over our shoulders. We must constantly know who is around us. It is almost an instinctual thing. We do not even know we are doing it sometimes.
Perhaps, it is because we are women(and still considered by many to be the weaker sex), that some folks may still feel they have the liberty to try and to quiet the voices of women.
I am not sure what it is.

As a guy blogger, I'd just like to say that I wouldn't be comfortable receiving any phone calls regarding what I write at all. Just from the handful of bad comments I've gotten, I can tell that there are some people out there who care way too much about what I have to say.
Oddly enough I had to step out in the panel before to take a call.
The call was from Mrs RDW telling me about a call she got from a blog reader.
It was positive, but it happens.
Of more concern was the day I released the story of how Jim Doyle tried to strong arm an endorsement out of the Wisconsin Realtors.
That night my car was broken into, my briefcase taken and everything in it was gone through.
Coincidence?
I don't know if three is a trend, but my wife has more concern over privacy/safety issues than I do.
Most of my problems (and I believe Owen and Jay mentioned it also) was when I wrote for the MJS rather than anything from blogging.

I definitely see women as targeted more. I guess a few men think it's easier to pick on a girl. I'm sure Michelle Malkin and Jessica McBride get far more hate mail and more vicious mail then Glenn Reynolds and Charlie Sykes.
I'm still waiting to get my first really nasty bit of hate mail. I've been weblogging since 1999 and the worst I've gotten is one commenter who demanded I talk about the death penalty and thought I wasn't conservative.
I don't feel that I can be too picky about my safety, ever. And maybe some of my choices to preserve my safety have limited some of the good things that could come into my life, but you know what - I'll take that chance.
