Wirch's Wacky Wisdom

I frequently contact all of my elected officials to find out where they stand on the issues. Being a fiscal conservative, I e-mail them to not only save trees and time, but also money (hence the fiscal conservative thing.) My state senator, and I use that term loosely, ALWAYS takes his good-natured time and writes me a letter back, at, of course, taxpayer expense. I would be much happier with an e-mail, but apparently e-mail is too complicated for Bob Wirch. The most obnoxious thing, aside from Bob-I'm-A-Fiscal-Conservative-(NOT)-Wirch wasting taxpayer dollars on envelopes, letterhead and stamps, when he could e-mail me for FREE, is he NEVER answers the question I pose to him. He also thinks he's pretty smart (which shows how ignorant he really is) when in his letters, he quotes some Republican to back up his uneducated thoughts.

Note to Bob: UNLIKE you, I don't tow the party line. I don't care what letter you have after your name, if you're and idiot, you're and idiot.

Recently, I e-mailed Senator Wirch asking him if he supported increasing the cigarette tax or not. (Sounds like a yes or no answer to me.) I received this letter back:

Huh?????

So, is he for or against raising the tax on cigarettes? I can guess his answer, since he LOVES to raise taxes on anything and everything. Bringing back the gas tax indexing is just one example.

But thanks for that lesson in how a bill becomes a law — I have the School House Rock Videos, also.

I called Wirch's office on Wednesday, March 18th and asked his staffer if he was for or against the tax, she wouldn't give me an answer. She asked for my phone number and said Wirch would call me back. I laughed at her and said that he wouldn't call me back, and I'd like to know if he was for or against the tax (I know she knows the answer.) She assured me he'd call me back.

Well, it's been a week, and no word from my representation (and I use that term loosely) in Madison. So much for that thing we have called a Representative Republic.

As I continue to get letters from Wirch I'll let you see the quality of service my taxpayer dollars pays for in the 22nd District.

Gas Prices Too High?

Thankfully the Republican controlled Senate and Assembly were able to pass the repeal of the automatic gas tax increase before the Senate fell to the Democrats. (It does make me wonder how the bill passed without being vetoed by Governor Jim "watch your wallet" Doyle. Oh, that's right it was an election year for him ...)

As a fiscal conservative, I don't believe in taxation without representation. Isn't that one of the reasons we fought for our independence from England? Remember the Boston Tea Party? Bob "I'm a fiscal conservative" Wirch should remember, he does have a degree in history. Guess he missed class that day because Bob "I'm a fiscal conservative" Wirch voted against the repeal.


What is Wirch's excuse for not supporting the repeal of the automatic gas tax increase?

Because the state can't afford it?

Why can't the state afford it?

Could it be because Democrat politicians like Sen. Wirch are too interested in spending our money rather than cutting spending?

Senate Democrats, including Sen. Wirch PASSED a $15.2 BILLION increase in our payroll tax. (Thankfully the Republican controlled Assembly saved us from the largest tax increase in Wisconsin history.)

Wirch asked for -- and received -- a $500,000 earmark for the choo-choo train in downtown Kenosha.

Wirch just wants more, more, more so he can spend, spend, spend.

We need to elect the Republican candidate, Ben Bakke, to replace Bob Wirch. We also need a few more Senate Districts to elect and re-elect Republicans so we can restore sanity when it comes to spending our tax money.

It's time we vote Wirch out of office and elect someone who cares about the wallets of constituents rather than those of special interests, lobbyists, and campaign contributors.

Wheatland no long part of Kenosha County

It is with a somber heart I have to relay this news readers: Wheatland is no longer part of Kenosha County.

You may ask "What? When did this happen? Why?"

I learned this interesting fact from my State Senator, Bob Wirch. Because Bob is such a wise and competent State Senator, I of course, believe everything he says, much like all the Democrat lemmings that continue to vote for him despite his dismal representation of the district.

I represent all of Kenosha County as well as the town and city of Burlington in Racine County.

This is a map of the 22nd Senate District:


As you can see, State Senate District 22 covers all the colored areas on the above map. Since Sen. Bob Wirch represents all of Kenosha County, Wheatland must no longer be part of Kenosha County.

I'm sorry Wheatland, the problems you have had this past year with all the flooding must have made someone in charge pretty upset.

There are a few good things to no longer living in Kenosha County, and being annexed into Walworth County.

• You will no longer required to use reformulated gasoline
• Your property taxes are lower
• Walworth county sales tax is lower
• Walworth county is approximately 99.9% Republican
• You won't be forced to pay for the KRM
• Walworth is a lot easier for out-of-state visitors to pronounce than Kenosha
• Your State Senator is NOT Bob Wirch

Come to think of it, maybe I should petition Walworth to annex the town I live in.

Wirch using scare tactics on seniors

Now the State Senator from the 22nd District, Bob Wirch, is using scare tactics on the senior citizens in Kenosha.

Wirch was talking to seniors at a gathering and LIED to them about Voter ID.

He told these seniors that Republicans wanted to charge everyone, including seniors, $50 to receive a voter ID, and the only way someone could vote is to have this so-called voter ID.

Anyone who knows anything about the voter ID amendment knows that a driver's license is a valid form of ID for voting. Any valid state-issued ID would be good enough to use for voting. There is no such thing as a specific voter ID. And if someone couldn't afford an ID Republicans offered a bill to have Wisconsin waive the fee for an ID.

So this is what Wirch has resorted to. Lying to seniors. And this is the man that has supposedly been working so hard to represent the 22nd District.

I just hope next time you tell this lie to seniors, someone gets you on video so we can show everyone what type of person you are.

Shame on you, Sen. Wirch, for using scare tactics and lying to senior citizens.

“We are the DNR and we can do what we want to”

The frustration level between Kenosha county residents and the DNR has hit reached a fevered pitch.

The latest frustration with the DNR is the killing of 14 mute swan at some of our local lakes.

During the week of April 19th, the DNR was skulking around our lakes looking for mute swans. They found 14 of them and proceeded to shoot them as horrified Kenosha residents looked on.

One woman in particular who heard a gunshot ran down to the lake where she knew the two swans were at to find the male has been shot and killed already. She then watched as they shot and killed the female sitting on the nest.

Furious, she confronted them and they said, “We are the DNR and we can do what we want to”.

This is our DNR. This is a government agency that supposedly works for us.

Now, if this was the only frustration in the last several months, it might be easier just to dismiss this as a horrible incident that will not happen again.

Problem is, the DNR already has a serious image problem and this latest incident just makes things much worse.

Even as recently as a few months ago, the veterans in Burlington, were engaged in a battle over a building a new Veteran’s Memorial Building. The DNR was against the building because they said there was a 1% chance the building might flood. 1% Chance! (My guess is that most building built in our area has a 1% chance of flooding. We are surrounded be many small lakes and rivers)

This battle raged for a little while until State Representative Samantha Kerkman stepped in. Finally, the DNR was willing to negotiate. The bill put forward by Rep. Kerkman to exempt the Veteran’s Memorial building was no longer needed.

Our relationship with the DNR was really called into question when Kenosha residents found out that one of our brand new schools in Kenosha was built on the contaminated site that used to be the home of “The Brass”.

This is one site that the residents of Kenosha wish the DNR had stopped our local government school board from moving forward.

I guess when the DNR states that “we are the DNR and we can do what we want” is true.

Probably the most frustrating part about this whole thing is that we, the residents of Kenosha County and Burlington, have a seat at the table.

Our State Senator Bob Wirch sits on the Committee of Environment and Natural Resources, which overseas the rules and regulations imposed by the DNR.

Where in the world has Senator Wirch been as we fight tooth and nail against the DNR?

We need someone to stand beside us and fight for us instead of sitting in these committee meetings in virtual silence.

WAKE UP, SENATOR!

If you cannot stand and defend us when you sit on the actual committee, then what is the point of you being in Madison in the first place?

For those interested, the families around these lakes where the swan were shot will be holding a memorial service to give the children a chance to mourn.

For all the people upset about these killings, here's a little bit of information that the Kenosha News hasn't told you. State Senator Bob Wirch is on the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources. He did nothing to save the mute swans.
